Microneedling

Our microneedling treatments are available with or without PRP. When performed by our qualified providers, microneedling is a safe, all-natural, and effective medical-grade treatment. It is used to improve a variety of skin conditions on the face and body, including acne scars, injury scars, fine lines, wrinkles, loss of elasticity, and stretch marks, using your body's own natural self-repair process.

How does Microneedling work?

Microneedling works by creating thousands of tiny micro-injuries on the surface of your skin with very small needles, triggering your body's natural collagen and elastin production. This process allows 80% more absorption of the growth factors that are applied to your skin during the treatment, which further enhance your collagen and elastin response. This treatment is safe and effective for patients of all skin types. The convenient cordless design of the SkinPen® allows us to effectively treat any area of your body, including face, neck, chest, arms, hands, legs, abdomen, and back.

What are the benefits of Microneedling?

Does Microneedling hurt?

Because we apply a topical anesthetic prior to your session, microneedling doesn't hurt. Most of our Grand Forks Microneedling patients say that microneedling does not hurt at all and feels like light prickles in the area being treated.

Is there recovery after a Microneedling session?

Immediately following your session, your skin will appear red and flushed, similar to a mild sunburn. The degree of redness correlates to how many passes are made over the area and the depth of the needle penetration. This redness usually passes by the next day. You may have some slight swelling, and your skin will feel a little tight for a day or so. If you can arrange it, it’s a good idea to have your micro-needling session as an after-work procedure. That way, your skin can calm down overnight.

When will I see results from a Microneedling treatment?

There is an immediate “glow” after your treatment session, but the true results from micro-needling build over time. This is because your collagen and elastin production ramps up and continues. Visible changes with the skin develop over the course of several days and weeks. Your results can continue to improve for up to six months.

MICRONEEDLING WITH PRP

This popular skin rejuvenation treatment is often called a “Vampire Facial” because it uses the patient’s own blood to stimulate a restorative effect. Before the treatment begins, our medical professional draws a small amount of the patient’s blood, which is then spun in a centrifuge to create a product that is rich in plasma and platelets, known as platelet rich plasma (PRP). PRP contains concentrated amounts of growth factors and other elements that promote and support tissue regeneration. PRP has many applications in medicine and has been used for years to support the body’s healing process. PRP is used in aesthetic medicine to stimulate the production of collagen and new tissue growth.

Treatment Overview

After your blood is taken and the PRP is extracted, treatment can begin. First, the solution is brushed onto the patient’s skin, along with a topical numbing cream to ensure the patient’s comfort. Then our nurse uses a device called a Dermapen to create thousands of tiny micro-punctures in the skin’s surface, across the entire treatment area. Not only does microneedling help PRP penetrate the deeper layers of the skin, but the tiny wounds created during the process also stimulate the body’s natural healing response. This results in a dramatic increase in collagen and elastin production, which produces smooth, younger-looking skin.

Recovery and Results

After a Microneedling with PRP treatment, the treated area will appear red and flushed, so most of our patients prefer to remain at home for the remainder of the day. Patients typically begin to notice results within a week, with the most dramatic results appearing within 4 to 8 weeks. Longer lasting results can be achieved with additional treatment sessions, spaced at monthly intervals.
